The purpose of the Whiskey Tasting Season is to explore new whiskeys, expand palettes, and have a bit of fun learning about the different styles and types of whiskey throughout the world. There are way too many brands to try in one year, but over the course of many seasons we may explore the wonders of the still.
The 2023/24 Season consisted of a number of event nights to determine our group's consensus champion of 44 Whiskey contenders. To properly and thoroughly evaluate the contenders we conducted a regular season, a playoff format (with wild-cards) and a final Championship round (Whiskey Bowl I).
During the season via 13 events (interspersed between Labor Day and Mother's Day) we ranked bottles and held seeded playoffs. The top 6 bottles after all was said and done made it to Whiskey Bowl I.
Whiskeys were grouped into Pods of 4, 5, or 6. Judges tasted pairings and scored a winner of each pairing.
The winner and loser of each pairing were then re-seeded in a multi-elimination bracket style until a consensus 1-thru-6 ranking was established for that evening.
During the regular season via 12 events we will ranked contenders for the playoffs.
The top 34 entrants made the cut into the playoffs or wild-card rounds.
44 Bottles of Whiskey from Bourbons to Ryes to Wheated and Malts were submitted for the 2023 tasting events.
Other than legal age restrictions, there is no set limit to the number of participants at a given event and all are encouraged to join in on the festivities.
The scores will be averaged for a consensus ranking of that evening. Results will be posted for group members that may need to miss an event.
Scoring is done by rating 4 categories.

Each event evening includes a maximum of 16 – (0.33 oz) “tastings” (equating to ~3.5 full shots) over the course of the night.
